Peeps at Many Lands: Egypt

Kelly painted Egypt for thirty years, and he writes it the way a painter sees. This is the Egypt of his own day rather than the pharaohs: the fellahin in the fields, the water wheels, the bazaars of Cairo, the desert caravans, the light coming off the river at evening. A working artist's account of a country he knew at ground level and never bothered to make exotic.
